What a season it's been. From massive Cup upsets to dominant league performances, here are the league's winners this season:
Amalgamated Lifts Limited Premier Division - Winners - Eltham Phoenix B, Runners Up - Footscray Lions. Footscray have been in 2nd spot since 11th Feb, holding off the challenge of both last year's league winners Club Santacruzense de Londres and Long Lane B, whereas Eltham Phoenix B took the lead from Long Lane B on January 11th, and never looked back with a dominant league performance in 2018.
Supreme Engraving Senior Division - Winners - The Oddfellows Arms, runners up - Woodside Celtic. The Oddfellows Arms only joined the league in October from the London & Kent Suburban League and had to play catch up with cup games and as we entered 2018 they had only played 3 league games and were around the wrong end of the table. The chase continued as Eltham SF fell away with a very poor January, and Woodside Celtic took up the baton, but on 22nd April a 7-0 win against Phoenix Knights put The Oddfellows Arms on the top of the table where they stayed, suffering just the one defeat in the league against the team finishing behind them, Woodside Celtic 4-2. For Woodside, any other season they would have probably won the league, but the held off the challenge of Eltham SF to secure runners up spot in the last game of the season.
In the Danson Property Services Division One, Winners - Long Lane A, Runners Up, Bayswater RK. Long Lane had a difficult start to life in WESFA, suffering defeats to Danson Albion, Abbey Wood and Woodside Celtic, but in November turned heads with a 3-0 win over Bayswater RK, from here they never looked back, despite a slight hiccup with a defeat to Kent Wanderers in January winning the league with the completion of the double over Bayswater in May with a 2-0 win. Newly promoted Bayswater found the adjustment into the higher division no problem and they too sounded a warning to the other teams with a 5-1 thumping of Abbey Wood, the then leaders in October. Runners Up spot was confirmed though without kicking a ball as Welling Town and then Junior Reds Spartans failed to field a side against them, which secured Runners Up spot from Abbey Wood.
In the ABA Technical Division Two, Winners - Mottingham Park Rangers, Runners Up - FC Plasma. This division has basically been a two horse race for the best part of the season. FC Plasma had the lead on goal difference, then it was Mottingham Park Rangers, then Plasma regained the lead, then Mottingham did on the 6th May with FC Plasma out of league games it was up to Mottingham to win their remaining games in hand, which they did. First a 4-3 win over Baldon Sports sent them top, and then with the last game of the season a 5-1 win over Springhill United Reserves meant that Junior Reds Athletic who had been chasing the two leaders all season, couldn't catch them and sealed the title after a fantastic season. For FC Plasma, silverware was to come in the shape of a Cup.
In the Summerhill Music Division 3, it was another 2 horse race basically. Woolwich Royals and Abbeymead contesting it between the two of them despite some fleeting interruptions from AFC Kingfisher and Eltham Lions. It was Woolwich Royals 3-0 win over Baldon Sports Reserves that sealed the title for Royals and meant that both Divisions 2 & 3 were won with wins over Baldon Sports! For Abbeymead a first season in Adult football, ending in a Cup Semi Final and promotion is not bad and gives them plenty of reasons to be cheerful.
