Week 35 - Sunday 6 May 2018

Back we went to VCD Athletic for this week's finals, and a real shock in the Bert Holloway Cup Final as Premier DIvision St Michaels face Division Two Junior Reds Athletic. Ben Malyon set the tone for the rest of the game, scoring in the opening minutes for the lower team, but the difference in levels wasn't visible on the pitch. Malyon completed his hat-trick, but goals from Daniel Regan and Daniel Smith and an onslaught in the closing minutes gave Athletic nervous moments but they held on for a memorable win.

The afternoon's game saw the big one, the Plumstead Challenge Cup, competed for by teams outside of WESFA as well as the WESFA teams, and this saw Bayswater RK of Division One also facing Premier Division opponents, this time in the shape of 2nd placed Footscray Lions. It was to be the day of the underdog though as a Bayswater RK recorded a 2-1 win, but are so thrilled they haven't recorded any goalscorers for me to publish! Luke Smith scored for the Lions.

In the Amalgamated Lifts Premier Division, it seems the chasers had surrendered the league to Eltham Phoenix B as Club Santacruzense de Londres couldn't field a side to face them and Long Lane B withdrew following their cup defeat last week. Wins therefore for Eltham Phoenix and Springhill United, with Eltham Phoenix B now the champions. Having to kick a ball though were Woolwich 90 and Jam who shared 2 goals and the points. Danny Edwards and Emmanuel Soile the scorers.

No conceding in the Supreme Engraving Senior Division though as leaders The Oddfellows Arms fail to extend their lead, being held 2-2 against 3rd placed Blackfen United. Richie Hamill and Ben Eagles on target for the leaders, with Jamie Jeffrey and Lewis Knox on target for Blackfen United who finish their season in a respectable 3rd spot, however as other teams catch up with their games this could change. David Guthrie was the goalscoring hero for Phoenix Knights as they recorded a 4-0 win at Woolwich Spartans. He grabbed a brace while Jack Cox and Zack James also weighed in with goals. Elsewhere Hornfair Athletic failed to field a side against Turk Ocagi Limasol Russellers.

In the Danson Property Services Division One 1st played 3rd as Long Lane A and Abbey Wood faced each other and after 90 minutes still couldn't be separated. Goals from Carlos Fairweather and Charlie May for Long Lane in a 2-2 draw. Danson Albion made it 2 wins in 2 with a 6-0 win over Junior Reds Spartans.

In the ABA Technical Division Two, Mottingham Park Rangers jump above FC Plasma into top spot with a 4-3 win over Baldon Sports. Jordan Johnson (2), David Harvey and Esmail El Khabaz with the goals for Rangers, while Samuel Wells, Harley Rauch and Charlie Roberts were on target for Baldon.

In the Summerhill Music Division Three, Abbeymead closed the gap on leaders Woolwich Royals with a 3-1 win over rivals AFC Kingfisher. Mitesh Koria, Scott Outteridge & Adam Soyemi on target for 'mead, while Robert Webster was on target for Kingfisher. Heath overcame Lessa FXI with the odd goal in 7. Connor Kennedy bagging a brace, Aaron Anthony and Blair Anderson also on target for Heath while Hasan Gunduz (2) and Keith Miller were on target for Lessa. Elsewhere Mottingham Forest beat Baldon Sports Reserves on the pitch but subsequent investigations found a "ringer" had been played so the game was awarded to Baldon.

A tidying up game in the Bert Holloway Cup as a group game got played at the same time as the final! Orpington Eagles recording a morale boosting 8-3 win over Vanbrugh. Nathan Hunter scoring 4 in the process.
