Long Lane lifted the Plumstead Challenge Cup beating Baldon Sports from the London & Kent Suburban League 3-1 in a fiery encounter at Park View Road.
Jack Webber gave the WESFA club a 20th minute lead after an error in the Baldon box, gave him the freedom of Welling to pick his spot from 12 yards and he duly fired into the bottom right hand corner. The lead lasted just 12 minutes, as Grant Bilney pounced in the 6 yard box after a Baldon header cannoned back off the bar causing havoc in the Long Lane box, poking home from close range.
With the scores level at half time, Long Lane came out in the second half and started to take the game to Baldon, with Jack Carthy firing Long Lane into the lead. As we moved into the last few minutes Baldon started to throw the kitchen sink at Long Lane, with Chris Waddle pushed up front and Ashley Kempster controlling the midfield, they couldn't find the way through, and it was Long Lane who punished the all out attack from Baldon and Jack Carthy broke free and scored the third and winning goal for Long Lane, who lift this historic trophy.
A crowd of around 300 added to the fantastic occasion, in which Bexley & Greenwich Hospice will ultimately be the winners in this Charity Competition.
