Week 16 Update - Sunday 4th December 2016
The football family was stunned this week after Monday's plane crash in Columbia which saw Brazilian Football Team Chapacoense lose most of it's first team squad on their way to a Cup Final. All clubs in WESFA stood in silence to pay their respects to the fallen souls.
Plumstead Challenge Cup then took Centre Stage again this week, and a couple of shocks to boot. Division One Abbey Wood played host to Senior Division high fliers Phoenix Knights and in a game of pure football, the hosts recovered from going a goal down to progress 7-3 to set up a home tie against Danson Albion who defeated Baldon Sports by 4 goals to 3. Charlie Edwards, Tom Jarman, Billy Standen and Lewis Uphill were on target for Danson Albion. Doubles from David Bacon, Joe Fullman and Grant Mayhew along with a Ben Queen goal sealed the victory for Abbey Wood. Jack Cox hit 2 in reply for Phoenix Knights.
Meanwhile Senior Division Cutty Sark (Thamesmead) travelled to Premier Division Turk Ocagi Limassol Russellers and 2 goals from Ben Smith and one from Sam Noller saw the Senior Division side through to set up a 3rd Round home tie against Long Lane. Two goals a piece for Sean Rochford and Giles Wilmore saw Old Roan Red Lions beat Eltham Phoenix 4-3 to set up a 3rd round tie at home to Bayswater RK or Bexley Athletic.
In the London Sunday Junior Cup, Maroon XI travelled to SW Alumini of Graveney the team that dumped Springhill United out in the last round, but there was to be no WESFA revenge as the home side completed a WESFA double dumping out Maroon XI 6-2.
3 ties played in the Presidents Cup, with Jam, Club Santacruzense and Sabanoh all progressing. Jam hosted Springhill United, running out 3-0 winners to set up a Semi Final tie against Club Santacruzense de Londres who over came Footscray Lions by 3 goals to 1. Vitor Abreu, Sergiomar Da Silva & Abel Viera with the goals. Sabanoh meanwhile came from behind to secure a 4-3 win against Junior Reds Seniors, two goals from Wilson Brown and one a piece from Rashid Kamara & Bankole Koroma send Sabanoh through to the Semi Final where they will meet either Welling Town or New Life United.
Eltham SF become the first Semi Finalists in the Win Jones Memorial Bowl coming from 2-0 at half time to beat Woolwich Spartans 5-3 in extra time. Jordan Davids, George Corr, Daniel Miles, Leon Flatman & Kieran Tullett with the goals to set up a visit to Cutty Sark or Eltham Phoenix in the Semi Final.
In the Len Wareham Memorial Trophy, Kent Wanderers breezed into the Semi Finals with a 10-0 win over Borussia Heath 15. 4 goals for Chris McGinty doing the damage along with doubles from David Gsteu and Wilfred Penmeni to set up a Semi Final tie against Advent Royals or AFC Kingfisher.
One game in the Amalgamated Lifts Limited Premier Division saw Long Lane and Welling Town Woolwich share 4 goals and the points to move above Jam to 3rd and 4th in the league. Jack Carthy and Jesse Thackham with the home side's goals, while Jason Elliot and Steve Gillett were on target for the visitors.
In the Supreme Engraving Senior Division, Plumstead AFC secured their long awaited first win of the season at Bostall Old Boys, a brace from Norman Gonzalez, along with goals from Ayo Johnson and Danny Emmerson helped them to a 4-1 win. Plumstead are now off the bottom of the table after the league awarded the game against Junior Reds Spartans to them from 13th November during a league meeting this week after the Reds failed to field a side.
In Division One FC Plasma move 2nd on goal difference from leaders Woodside Celtic after a 5 star performance from Steven Armstrong saw Plasma beat Mottingham Forest 7-2. Armstrong's 5 added to by Lee Cullen and Louis Rowbotham.
Bexley Athletic are 5 points away in 6th after a 2-0 win over New London, Elton Lewis again among the goals.
At the bottom Royal Arsenal failed to field a side against Woolwich Royals, so the points go to the away side as decided in this weeks Committee Meeting.
In Division Two, with the leaders in Cup Action, Advent Royals missed the chance to go top falling at home to the first defeat of the season to Sutcliffe Rangers 4-2. Bayswater RK closed the gap to 6 points in 3rd with a 7-2 win over Meridian Sports. No scorers recorded for Bayswater, but Ryan Norris gets a nod for his brace for Meridian.
In 4th place, Junior Reds Athletic fell to a 3-1 defeat against Vanbrugh, goals from Jonathan Shannon, Rhys Patterson and Sam Kjeseth for Vanbrugh.
In 7th spot Lessa FXI hosted AFC Kingfisher. Kingfisher said on twitter afterwards that the minutes silence for the victims of the Columbian Place crash was impeccably observed, however Kingfisher carried it on for the following 90! Four goals from Gary McKenna and 2 from Harry Fox helped to home side to a thumping 8-0 win.
Mottingham Forest moved up to 8th spot with a 3-2 win over Springhill United Reserves, James Moore scored twice and Sam Thomas once to seal the win.
