Week 18 Update - Sunday 18 December 2016
The last week of matches in 2016, and a few cup matches to start with. The Dewar Shield 2nd round saw Footscray Lions host Junior Reds Seniors in an all Premier Division tie. Footscray Lions in 3rd spot would surely have been favourites after the visitors less than impressive campaign so far, but it was the visitors who provided a shock result, hitting their hosts for 6 in a 6-1 victory. Ali Musa scored twice with Jordan McTigue, Oliver Black and Reece Bailey all on target. Junior Reds now travel to Dulwich to face Club Santacruzense des Londres in the 3rd round.
In the Win Jones Memorial Bowl Quarter Final, goals from Mitch Davis and Bill Smith saw Cutty Sark overcome Eltham Phoenix 2-0 to set up a semi-final tie against Eltham SF.
Two ties in the Len Wareham Memorial Cup, see Springhill United Reserves and Advent Royals progressing. Springhill United cruised past Meridian Sports 8-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Mickey Wright and a brace from Daniel Longhurst. Lee Fabro, Dominic Verrillo and Jacob Smale were also on target for United. Lewis Donnelly with the consolation for Meridian. Springhill now face Junior Reds Athletic in the Semi Final. The other Semi FInal is a mouth watering affair with the division’s top two facing each other after 2 goals from Ryan McDermott, plus goals from Tim Royston, Bernard Mvita, Andrew Obayiuwana and Enoch Charway saw Advent Royals past AFC Kingfisher 5-2.
In the Amalgamated Lifts Premier Division, Sabanoh 97 fail to finish 2016 unbeaten after falling to a 4-2 defeat by second placed Long Lane. Jack Webber, Steven Smith, Jesse Thackham and Johnny Wright hitting the goals for Long Lane to close the gap at the top to 4 points.
Club Santacruzense de Londres climb to 4th spot after a 3-2 win over Jam who slip to 6th. Sergiomar Da Silva, Kruma Cruz and Abel Viera on target for Santacruzense.
In the Supreme Engraving Senior Division, Woolwich 90 remain top after a 4-2 win over Eltham SF, Danny Edwards scored twice plus goals from David Espanosa and James Noel were too much for Eltham SF who had Manny Brown and Tommy Gaish on target.
Keeping pace two points behind are Phoenix Knights, who inflicted Maroon XI’s second defeat of the season. Paul Morgan and Karl Upson with the goals in a 2-1 victory.
Danson Albion are one of 3 teams finishing the year on 16 points in 4th spot after a 4-2 win over Junior Reds Spartans. Charlie Edwards (2), Jon Wayment and Billy Standen on target for Albion.
In Division One, Woodside Celtic finish 2016 as the leaders with an emphatic 9-1 win over Mottingham Park Rangers, Bradley Killick and Dennis Williams both with hat-tricks.
Goals galore in Kidbrooke as Old Roan Red Lions in 3rd faced 5th placed New London. Goals for Sill Benson, Thomas Lawrance, Sean Rochford and Joe Sellick were not enough for Old Roan, as 2 goals each for Romel Holmes-Lewis and Jason Hammett plus one from Usman Sanusi gave the visitors a 5-4 victory and move to 4th spot behind Old Roan on goal difference.
6th placed Bexley Athletic and 8th placed Baldon Sports shared 2 goals and the points with goals from Sam Sevenoaks for Bexley and Jack Gallagher for Baldon.
A hat-trick from Owen Jeavons saw 7th placed Teviot Rangers overcome Woolwich Royals 4-3, while bottom side Royal Arsenal got so close but went down by the same score to FC Puma. A brace from James Bell plus goals from Tony Hinder and Anthony Laking was enough for Puma while Giuseppe Vammacigno scored twice and Dario Princip once for Royal Arsenal.
In Division Two, Kent Wanderers took advantage of Advent Royals being in cup action to finish the year in top spot with a 5-0 win over Vanbrugh. Ricky Gould, Chris McGinty, Wilfred Penmeni and Marc Smith among the goals.
Two goals from Paul Christodoulou and Ben Malyon saw Junior Reds Athletic finish the year nicely placed in 3rd place after a 6-2 win over Borussia Heath 15, while Sutcliffe Rangers finish the year in 4th spot after their game at Lessa FXI was abandoned with Lessa winning 1-0.
